Improve assembly using PUR adhesives

3M’s latest packaging adhesive line consists of one system of adhesives and portable dispensers that combines many production benefits of hot melt adhesives and bond performance usually associated with 2-part structural adhesives.

One important feature of the PUR adhesive dispenser is the fast initial set which helps eliminate or minimize fixturing to speed assembly of wood, plastic, rubber, metal, plasticized vinyls, and more. Within minutes, PUR’s have the holding strength of more than 1,000 pounds. PUR packaging adhesives form a bond in two stages. First they cool and form an initial bond and ten crosslink molecularly. They absorb moisture from the wood and from the air to form a permanent bond. Once a polyurethane cross links and forms a permanent bond, it can never be broken. The bond usually becomes stronger than the substrate.

With production benefits similar to hot melt technologies, PUR’s adhesive dispenser has a fast-set time with some reaching handling strength in as few as five seconds, eliminating the need for long clamping time and increases throughput. With fewer pieces in clamps, less shop floor space is used for drying time.
