Another Success Study Snapshot: Fuji Films USA

Fuji Films USA operates a 150,000 sf. distribution center in central New Jersey from which over 10,000 different SKU’s are shipped from this facility daily. One such item is a very expensive, temperature-sensitive film product.

At Fuji Film's request, Hughes analyzed the shipping and packaging operation and noted several issues regarding how the items were being shipped:

1. Fuji was using custom made EPS (expanded poly styrene) shipping containers
2. A special shipping box had to be designed to receive the custom EPS containers
3. An expensive refrigerant had to be placed in each container to maintain the required temperature

In addition, these materials were very expensive and took up valuable warehouse space.

Hughes made the following recommendation to Fuji Films: by replacing the custom EPS and refrigerant with a Thermal Shielding Bag, which holds temperature longer, is easier to use, takes up less space and is less expensive than the custom EPS/refrigerant solution, Fuji would also be able to replace the custom shipping box with a standard corrugated box, further reducing materials and storage costs. An added bonus: the performance of the Shielding Bags reduced the size of the refrigerant block, leading to more cost savings.
